THERMOFORMING
|
Thermoforming
is stretching, by pressure, vacuum or mechanical means, a heated
rubbery sheet of plastic into a desired shape. the processes needed to
make a thermoformed part include clamping, heating, shaping, cooling,
and trimming.
- A
thermoforming plastic part is produced by one of the following methods pressure forming,
drape forming, snap-back forming, billow forming, and vacuum forming. Design
considerations, quantity, and timing needs will determine which method would be best to
produce a particular part.
- Heavy-gauge :
up to 0.250" in most plastics such as Polystyrene, polyethylene,
ABS and Polypropylene.
- Thin Gauge: from
0.007" in most plastics such as PVC, Polyester,
Polystyrene.
